Detergents and roses

  Re: (0...)
I'm rather new to growing roses and have had good success but have a question about using soap to kill aphids. When I empty the liquid detergent bottles for my laundry it occured to me could I had water and pour over the roses. I thought I better ask someone with a lot more knowledge than me. My detergent is chlorine free, regular run-of-the-mill laundry detergent. If it's okay this would be a great way to get the last few drops of soap out of the bottle. Thanks to anyone who can help.

I believe there is a difference between soap and detergent, and when they speak of using a soapy spray to get rid of aphids, they are talking about using a liquid dish soap (like Dawn), not laundry detergent. I agree that having some way to use up the last drips of laundry detergent would be nice, but unless I could find out for certain that it wasn't going to harm my plants, I think I'd stick to the dish soap. Perhaps a call to the local county extension office would help?
The great thing about gardening is that you always get a chance to start over!
