Clematis 'Multi Blue"

I have read differing opinions about propagating Ranunculaceae. Has anyone tried layering? Any success?

Go on the HGTV message boards for gardening. There are quite a lot of expert gardeners there that raise a lot of clematis plants in their own home flowerbeds. They know a lot about this plant/vine. Those are very active forums.
