Black Walnut Tree + Sweetspire - cam1010 - 07-07-2007
Does anyone know if Henry Garnet Sweetspire will survive under a black walnut tree? I can't find it listed in any info on black walnut toxicity so I'm tempted to try it. Thanks!

Given that the native habitat is a swamp and Juglons do not grow there I would hazard that this would not do well under a Black Walnut if only because the soil conditions are too disimilar. As a rule if a plant is not specifically listed as tolerant of the Juglone of the Black Walnut it isn't.

Does anyone know which plants or families of plants will tolerate growing near a black walnut tree in my front yard? The area is pretty shady and the soil is a well drained loam.
