Apple Tree Worms - clessard - 01-06-2007

My sister has an apple tree in her back yard that produces as much fruit as it does worms. We would like to resolve this problem somewhat organically. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Start by contacting your local University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension Office, http://www.uwex.edu/ces/cty/ and they should have some good information on when and what needs to be done. Most likely your sisters problem is the Coddling Moth larva and that Apple tree will need to be sprayed with dormant oil and the right time (uwex will be able to give that information), beneficial insects can be released (at the right time), sprays may need to be used but keep in mind that any spray that will control the pest will also kill those beneficials.
