please, i adore clematis but have tried 3 times unsuccessfully to get one to grow here in santa barbara. does anyone know a variety that works in this area and if so where to get it and how to plant it! I would be so grateful for this information. thank you

Look for Clematis from more tropical areas such as "C. aristata", C. florida", "C. glycinoides", "C. marmoraria", "C. microphylla", and maybe "C. mandshurica" or "C. rehderiana". The plant hardiness zones for these indicate they probably do not need the chilling hours winter gives to the other species
